

Mr. Hawthorne was born in Tustin, California. He received a Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in accounting from the University of Florida and his Juris Doctorate degree, with honors, from the University of Florida. Mr. Hawthorne was a member of the University of Florida Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif. Mr. Hawthorne was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1993 and is currently rated “AV” by Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Hawthorne focuses on real estate law.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Hawthorne worked as a tax accountant for Arthur Andersen & Co. Following law school, Mr. Hawthorne joined the real estate department of Foley & Lardner LLP as an associate. From 1997 to 1999, Mr. Hawthorne left Foley & Lardner to serve as General Counsel and Project Manager for Thomas-Pierce & Company, an international consulting and brokerage firm specializing in rapidly consolidating industries, including funeral homes and cemeteries. In 1999, Mr. Hawthorne returned to Foley & Lardner and became a partner in 2003. In April 2009, Mr. Hawthorne joined the Firm as a partner. Mr. Hawthorne served as vice chair of Foley & Lardner’s Golf & Resort Industry Team. His practice includes representing clients in all manner of real estate transactions, with a particular focus on multifamily housing and retail development. Mr. Hawthorne also has significant experience representing buyers and sellers of debt obligations.
